The words people use about this work

Short, honest definitions. Where a term is used loosely, or means different things to different vendors, it says so.

Asking several data sources for the same field in order, and stopping at the first good answer.

  • Data enrichment

Adding fields you do not have to records you do, by matching them against a data source.

Checking that an address exists and can receive mail, before you send anything to it.

  • Catch-all domain

A domain whose mail server accepts anything addressed to it, so no single address can be confirmed.

  • Match rate

The share of your records a source could find an answer for.

  • Bounce rate

The share of messages a mail server rejected rather than delivered.

  • Firmographics

The attributes that describe a company rather than a person: size, industry, location, revenue.

  • Ideal customer profile

A description of the companies worth selling to, specific enough to build a list from.
